Venkatasubramanian Srinivasan is a retired United Nations international civil servant with an illustrious career spanning 32 years. His expertise encompasses a wide array of fields including governance, policy development, planning, budgeting, coordination, development cooperation, project management, procurement lifecycle management, contract administration, inquiry and investigations, disaster preparedness and prevention, elections, public information, media and communications, and administration. Srinivasan also played a pivotal role in Tsunami Recovery and Rehabilitation efforts in the Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, India, from 2004 to 2006. His involvement in this significant UN assignment underscores his commitment to humanitarian causes and disaster response initiatives. Working tirelessly alongside local authorities and international agencies, Srinivasan contributed his expertise to facilitate the recovery and rebuilding process for communities devastated by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. His dedicated efforts in this major endeavour exemplify his compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to serving communities in times of crisis. He has served with distinction at prestigious UN agencies such as UNICEF, UNDP, and UN peacekeeping missions in Cambodia, Iraq, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya and Somalia.
Before his tenure with the United Nations, Srinivasan made significant contributions to various landmark events in India, including the IX Asian Games Delhi 1982, the Non-Aligned Summit 1983, and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 1983. He also played key roles during elections to the Delhi and Assam State Legislatures in 1982 and 1983, respectively. Prior to his public service, he gained valuable experience in the private sector for a period of two years.
Srinivasan is not only a seasoned professional but also an abstract thinker, known for his ethical values and spiritual outlook. He is a sought-after motivational speaker who has travelled extensively both internationally and across India. Currently, he provides business advisory services focusing on governance, public policy, access to justice, mediation and negotiation, strategic sourcing, procurement life cycle management, contract management, human capital development & management, inquiry and investigations, disaster preparedness and prevention, media and communications. Additionally, he shares his vast expertise through guest lectures at universities and institutions, serving as a resource person for management training programs, and mentoring young professionals on value-based personal development, career growth and leadership.
Srinivasan is also the Founder & Principal Consultant of India i.e., Bharat Knowledge Exchange, a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration across diverse sectors in India. Education-wise, Srinivasan holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. He has also completed an advanced negotiation course from the Harvard Law School Public Disputes Program through the UNDP Virtual Development Academy. His academic pursuits further include specialized programmes in mercantile law, contract law, as well as a management development programme. Moreover, he has attended numerous training programmes in India and abroad, covering areas such as programme/project management, development budgeting, procurement, and contract management.
